Description and Qualifications for Elder, Deacon, and Trustee
Qualifications as defined in the Constitution of FCC Erwin

Elder

Elders of FCC Erwin are best described as shepherds of the congregation, called to lead in a faithful, prayerful, and biblical way as demonstrated in both word and in action. In concert with the Ministers, Elders are responsible for leading the spiritual life of the congregation, addressing needs for pastoral care, and establishing the strategy and vision of the church and its future.

Qualifications for Elders:

  • Member of FCC Erwin for at least 3 years prior to date of election
  • 3-year period may be waived if individual has served as an Elder or Minister in good standing with a Christian Church or Church of Christ prior to membership at FCC Erwin
  • Actively involved in church services and activities
  • 30 years of age or older
  • Called to embody characteristics as described in the New Testament, notably 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:1-3

Deacon

Deacons of FCC Erwin are called to be the servant leaders within the congregation, ensuring that the functions of FCC’s ministries, services, activities, finances, and benevolence are active and functional. Deacons represent the needs of the church community and work to validate and enact the strategies and vision of the church.

Qualifications for Deacons:

  • Member of FCC Erwin for at least 1 year and 1 day prior to date of election
  • Actively involved in church services and activities
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Called to embody characteristics as described in the New Testament, notably 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and Acts 6:1-6

Trustee

Trustees of FCC Erwin serve as the corporate officers of the church, with legal responsibilities for church insurance and liability and for significant financial and property-related decisions.

Qualifications for Trustees:

  • Member of FCC Erwin
  • Actively involved in church services and activities
  • 30 years of age or older
  • Property-owner in the community
  • Ability to make wise business decisions
